At Furbaby Pet Care, our commitment to your pet’s wellbeing is what guides everything we do. And that’s why we’re so excited to introduce a new role on our campus: the Pet Care Advocate. This special position was created with care and thoughtfulness to ensure every pet we care for receives consistent, loving, and detail-oriented attention throughout their stay. Meet Daisha Andrushuk, our very first Pet Care Advocate.
A Role Created with Purpose
“It’s a role that looks over the dogs,” Daisha explains. “Making sure they’re healthy, that their food and medications are handled properly, and that any incidents or physical concerns are tracked and communicated with their parents.”
The Pet Care Advocate role was developed to fill a vital gap in the day-to-day workings at Furbaby. As Daisha shared, “There were times when little things could get missed because everyone was so busy. We needed someone who could focus entirely on the wellbeing of the dogs, so I wrote up a proposal for the Pet Care Advocate role.” That proposal, born from insight and experience, is now an essential part of how we operate.
What’s a Snout to Tail Assessment?
One of the most important duties Daisha oversees is the “Snout to Tail” assessment, a full-body wellness check for dogs staying with us for five days or more. “It helps us track things like bumps, scrapes, weight, and overall health,” she says. “We even have graphic forms to make sure every inch of their body is accounted for.”
These assessments are not only important for monitoring physical health but also allow for deeper communication with pet parents. “Any questions or concerns about a dog’s stay, especially if it’s serious, come through me,” Daisha says. “That triangle between pet, parent, and us is something I manage.”
Improvements Across the Campus
Since the Pet Care Advocate role began in late December, Daisha has seen positive changes across the board. “There’s better organization, better communication, and more flow,” she says. “Everyone knows who to talk to, and things aren’t getting missed.”
The difference has been especially noticeable for dogs with longer stays. “I get to know them more personally, and that helps me notice small changes,” she explains. “We had dogs like Karma who needed extra help maintaining weight. Being able to catch that and adjust their food made a huge difference.”
A Role Built on Care and Connection
Daisha says the best part of the job is being able to focus so fully on the pets in our care. “It’s made me more vigilant. I really enjoy monitoring them, making sure they’re okay.”
Reflecting on how far the position has come, Daisha says, “I’m proud of it. We’ve come a long way from when we started. Now, everyone understands the role, knows how to communicate with me, and we all work together to keep our furry guests healthy and happy.”
Daisha brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role as Pet Care Advocate. With a degree in Animal Bioscience, a background as a veterinarian assistant, and time spent working as an animal protection officer, she’s spent years dedicated to animal wellbeing in many forms. She also currently serves as an adoption representative at the Saskatoon SPCA, adding another layer of compassion and expertise to the work she does each day at Furbaby Pet Care.
Daisha’s warmth and dedication radiate through everything she does, and we’re incredibly proud to have her in this role.
Because at Furbaby Pet Care, it’s all about the love, the details, and the people who care enough to notice.
