Starting April 22, 2024, the City of Saskatoon will be kicking off significant road construction near Furbaby Pet Care as part of the CN Industrial Drainage and Infrastructure Improvement Project.
Here’s everything you need to know to navigate the area smoothly during the construction period, which is expected to last from April to October 2024.
What’s Being Done?
The project, managed by Garnett Industries, will focus on a series of upgrades to improve local infrastructure:
- Stormwater System Enhancements: Upgrades to the ditch and culvert stormwater infrastructure to improve surface drainage and reduce the risk of flooding.
- Road Rehabilitation: Roads will be rehabilitated to provide smooth, like-new surfaces.
- Utility Adjustments: External utility alterations to support the improved drainage system.
Key Phases and Dates for Road Construction Near Furbaby Pet Care
Phase 1: Melville Street (Westbound)
Begins week of April 22, 2024, for about 6 weeks.
Impact: Westbound lane closure between Brand Road and Jasper Avenue. Access via Lorne Avenue.
Phase 2: Melville Street (Eastbound)
Begins week of June 3, 2024, for about 4 weeks.
Impact: Eastbound lane closure from Lorne Avenue to the CN rail crossing east of Portage Avenue. Access via Clarence Avenue or Brand Road.
Phase 3: Portage Avenue
Starts around July 1, 2024, lasting roughly 6 weeks.
Impact: Full closure between Melville Street and Edson Street, with sub-phased work to allow business access.
Phase 4: Melville Street & Portage Avenue Intersection
Expected to start August 12, 2024, for about 2 weeks.
Impact: Complete closure with infrastructure improvements including new curbs, boulevards, storm drains, and asphalt. Access to businesses west of Portage Avenue via Lorne Avenue.
Phase 5: Melville Street Road Rehabilitation
Starting August 26, 2024, for about 5 weeks.
Impact: Phased closures to minimize disruption.
Garnett Industries will be operating from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
